Quarter Sovereign - $133

For the first time in its history, The Royal Mint has issued a quarter-sovereign to the public. Although two pattern pieces were produced in 1853, the quarter-sovereign was never issued into circulation – making the 2009 release an extremely significant coin.

Proof Quality 91.67% Pure Gold

The quarter-sovereign is struck from 91.67% pure gold in proof quality.

Famous Pistrucci Reverse

The coin’s reverse depicts Benedetto Pistrucci’s famous St George and the dragon design. According to the Royal Mint, the depiction differs from the design on the UK’s well-known sovereign in that the Saint’s helmet retains its streamer.

UK Legal Tender

Issued as legal tender of the United Kingdom, the coin portrays the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.

Limited Mintage

The Royal Mint will release no more than 10,000 of these 2009 quarter sovereigns.

Walnut Presentation Case

The coin is housed in a walnut-veneer presentation case.

Numbered Certificate of Authenticity

The coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
