Lionfish Reverse Design
The coin’s reverse portrays a Lionfish in colour. Covered in red to black bands, the Lionfish has very long pectoral and dorsal fins. The dorsal fin comprises an array of extremely venomous spines, which are used for protection against predators. Growing to around 35cm in length, the Lionfish can be found in tropical waters around the west, north and east coasts of Australia.
‘P’ Mintmark
The coin’s reverse incorporates The Perth Mint’s historic ‘P’ mintmark.
Australian Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the 2009 year-date on the obverse.
